Actor Philip Seymour Hoffman’s overdose death sparks recovery questions

Prison Minister Marty Angelo to All Drug Addicts and Alcoholics: “You Can Recover” In the light of the recent drug overdose death of actor Philip Seymour Hoffman, I would like to remind all addicts that recovery is possible. Open Letter to Gov. Jerry Brown

Dear Governor Brown,   Thank you for your office’s Constituent Affairs email reply dated August 6, 2013 regarding my June 26th letter concerning my offer to help you solve our state’s prison problems. I stated in my letter that I agreed with Senator Steinberg that one the best and only solutions to our current prison situation is to reduce the number of inmates returning to prison.   You can release the entire prison population today and that wouldn’t change a thing. Because according to national recidivism statistics 75% (three-out-of-four) of those inmates will be rearrested and go back to prison within three …

‘Mandatory minimum’ sentences to end for many drug offenders

Marty Angelo’s response - Good idea … but put in place drug abuse recovery programs that work like the one the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Dept. used for over 19 years (The Drug Farm) so that many of these inmates will not return to prison.  The national statistics show that 3 out of 4 inmates released from prison get re-arrested within 3 years. In the State of California the rate is even higher with over 80% go back to prison within 1 year!!!  It doesn’t matter now many drug addicted prisoners are released to ease the prison population and reduce the prison …

How Charles “Chuck” Colson Inspired Me

Charles W. “Chuck” Colson October 16, 1931 – April 21, 2012 Mr. Chuck Colson inspired me from the moment I first read his book, “Born Again.”  I was standing in a Christian bookstore in Buffalo, New York looking for books to explain what had happened to me after becoming a Christian while I awaited a court date for a drug possession charge back in 1980.  I found Colson’s book very fascinating and it also confirmed to me that the same experience that happened to Chuck Colson happened to me.  We both were “born again” by having Jesus Christ come into our lives and …
